Fire Lookout hiking trip to Desolation Lookout for up to 4 people

Beat poet Jack Kerouac spent the summer of 1956 here. The trip would include:

1.One copy of “Poets on the Peaks” by John Suiter. 2. A hike down to Ross Lake Resort from the highway with Gerry Cook, a longtime employee of the park, acquaintance of Gary Snyder and former lookout himself. 3. A boat ride up the lake to Lightning Creek dock.  4. A 9.4 mile roundtrip hike to the lookout that includes a technical discussion of the structure with an NPS Preservationist. 5. Picnic lunch at the summit, packed up the mountain by guide. 6. A boat ride back down the lake with complimentary beer or glass of wine.
